Healthcare
The prevalence of systemic racism in healthcare is appalling. The disparities in healthcare for African Americans and other minorities results in worse health outcomes for this demographic. Minorities tend to experience higher rates of infant mortality, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Housing
A cornerstone of social mobility in the US is private property. The housing policies of the US have historically made it near impossible for many minorities from economic prosperity and opportunity. Practices like red-lining and restrictive covenants in addition to insidious urban development programs have placed barriers for minorities to become homeowners.
Education
In the US, having a good education is often a necessity for social mobility. However, systemic racism has been embedded in the US education system since the time when slavery was a common practice. Segregation and flawed systems like school-to-prison pipelines create an environment in which minorities receive significantly worse education than their counterparts.
Criminal Justice
Systemic racism in the criminal justice system is quite explicit, even today. Over-policing, racial profiling, and mass incarceration are some of the unjust reasons why minorities are disproportionately represented in prisons.
